'Cuenca and Cotacachi' Retirement

Looking at relocation to either Cuenca or Cotacachi. There is a big difference I know. Would like opinions regarding safety, acceptance by locals, areas outside of Cuenca as well in case we want to have some walking around room and buy in the surrounding countryside. Anything on Cotacachi would be appreciated also, same areas of concern.

While I can't comment on Cuenca, Linda and I have lived in Cotacachi for a year and a half. We find it a delightful city, acknowledged as one of the best managed small towns in Ecuador.

The people here are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, the town is very safe, and the cost of living is low.

Hi to all. I am thinking about Ecuador this past few days and is actually considering the country for my retirement. I would like to have some good information about retiring in the said country and how was it for expats and retirees to be living there.
