"One reason we like Ecuador is that there is no hassle with the Ecuador police".

Hello World and hello Mr. Scott! Gary Scott needs to get out more! I know one Federal Police Officer and have been with them in their SUV when they "indeed have been bribed" in Cuenca! In fact we were using the police SUV for personal business for his sister.

I dated this police officer's sister. I have been to that police officer's home. Quite nice indeed.

Ecuador has some fine cops! They have some very fine security forces in the parks and other recreation areas. They patrol the streets and will assist gringos as if they were (born) citizens of the country.

But don't expect that because you are a gringo, that you have any priority to be assisted. Get rid of that attitude or you will go to jail for a few hours and be asked to provide them with your passport for security. The judge will ask you for more money then the cop!

Simply do not argue with the cops and if they ask you to pay them on the spot...do it! And try to negotiate the fee. But don't expect to get a receipt and don't even ask for it. Send your bill to Gary Scott.

Recently a friend paid $40 to a cop because she was blocking the traffic due to a flat tire on her car. She either paid the fee or have the car towed.

Mr. Scott is correct..."there is no hassle with the Ecuador police". But I say, "pay them what they ask" and you will stay out of jail.

It's going to take a long time to polygraph 43, 000 cops!
