Sam from Cool Canada - 01/10/09 20:45
HelloI would be interested in communicating with any Canadians who have moved, or spend part-year or other in Ecuador. My husband and I are keen to find out info and have lots of questions, before we make that move. We are planing a trip to Ecuador in the spring to investigate. We are also in need of an apartment for about 3 months. Would anyone have any contacts?
Please and thanks

Rather than the house to let for three months, I am sure there are other things that you might want to know. It will be helpful if you posted them in this forum. There could be someone that is waiting to reply to all sorts of the questions you have

Why retire in Ecuador:Suddenly retirement in Ecuador is the best news around. Ecuador is being touted as a South American retirement haven, competing with favorites like Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama. Rapidly increasing prices for land and housing are making those destinations less desirable for people on fixed incomes, pensions or those who just want to reduce their expenditures.
Recently named as the second top retirement destination in the world on CNN, based on a survey by International Living, Ecuador’s appeal is quickly becoming obvious to savvy savers. The cost of living is so low that Gary and I are able to Ecuador Flowerslive very comfortably on less than $1000 a month after set-up expenses like furniture, appliances and internet connections have been paid.

My Husband and I are looking at Cuenca for a permanent move. From all that we have read and studied this area appears to be what we are looking for. We are on a fixed income and are thinking we would like to live in the city. Are there any negatives that you have discovered. Do you forsee cost of living sky rocketing? Thankyou. Susan.

I think based on what others had said that cost of living in Ecuador is low. And besides, you can still afford the cost of living considering that you have fixed income as you had said.I was suppose to post a link about living in Ecuador, what to expect there and what to do, but Chi Chi already provided one. So i suggest that you go and try her link.

I had tried looking at the post of Chi Chi and it is quite a good link to me. But there are some missing info that i think should be included in the topic. But i guess i have to wait for another post here for a more detailed one. for the meantime, i think i have to go search for the info in the net and if i happen to got more relevant one then i will post it here later.

Hi I have lived in Ecuador now for 12 months with my husband. We love it and are now residents. The only thing I miss is my kids. Even though they are young adults and live very busy lives. I hope to return to Australia for a few weeks before Xmas to finalise some things and see the kids. Then it will be them who come and visit us. Back in 2007 I started my website so that I could hopefully help others who are thinking of retiring in Ecuador. We find it a beautiful place to live and own an apartment in Cuenca in the mountains. We also rent a beach/bungalow at Ayampe as my husband is working on a development on the coast and it is absolutely beautiful. Eventually we will own two apartments one in Cuenca and one on the coast. This is something we would never have been able to afford back in Australia. My website is really a personal journey of living in Ecuador and if you subscribe to the Newsletter you will not only receive my updates but also be able to read the back issues of our journey to Ecuador. I hope you enjoy as many of my subscribers say they do. The Newsletter is basically my journal and photos and from the heart feelings.Ciao for now
Dixie

Living and retiring in Ecuador is indeed a great idea for those who are soon to retire. If I were also to retire I would surely go for Ecuador. I just want to know if I can be able to see some good spots in the country where aside from enjoying is that retirees can also put up a small business. Hope to hear from all of you guys regarding this matter.
