Sorry to hear your news. I wish I had seen this before as I just came back from Ecuador (Quito and Banos) at the end of May. I will be going back in November...Until then, I will keep my family posted in Guayaquil and the Andes for any news and to inquire about Jen. Let me know what I can do to help you. As an Ecuadorian I feel responsible and very saddened by this.Mayra

Hi I just went to Quito, Ecuador to visit a guy I met 3 years earlier. When I arrived he looked completly differnt, he gained like 30 to 40 more pounds. His wife is from Russia. Anyway I I just had a bad feeling that I made a mistake coming to this place, after travelling about 28 hrs to get there he wants to take me in his suv out of town he says to have lunch after about 30 mins of him driving 100mph he stops at a supermarket to buy 4 huge plastic bottles of yogurt! I said to him I thought we were going to the restuarant, he said oh it was closed. Then as we drove into the country side I realize this was bad news , I asked him to stop at a tiny gas station to pee, then I never got back in the car, I ended up walking in the middle of nowhere until I made my way to the us embassy to seek help, I never slept that night, took the first plane out of there! Horrible experience!!! Never go the that place is my advice!

Well, Robert that is a very strange story. You travel 28 hours to see a married guy?
The guy is strange.
You tell us therefore never visit Quito?
Comment #5 Michael (63.176.159.130) - 10/16/08 11:19
yeah why would you go visit a guy who is married.. do you think that maybe he took you out so far because he didn't want anybody to see you. He was probably relieved that you didnt get back in the car!
Comment #6 Yasmine (63.176.159.87) - 11/14/08 11:51
Yeah thats funny.. He wouldn't want anybody that knew him to see you in his car. He probably thought you were weird.

any news about the missing girl? what ever happened to that?
Comment #8 Gene (63.176.159.21) - 01/23/09 02:21
Wow Robert what a bad story I probably wouldn't admit to that but I guess if it's for the good of other peoples safety who are thinking of traveling there, then good job.

Robert is indeed raising an issue that is fast catching up with us. While in campus, a friend of mine disappeared without any trace. Retracing his steps showed that he asked for his girlfriend's credit card, emptied her account and disappeared into thin air. A straight A student himself, no one could explain this strange behavior. To date, there is no trace of him. Rather than discourage us from visiting the place, Robert should tell us to be more careful about who and what we give into. My prayers are with the family that they soon find the missing person.

That seem to be way back and three years down the line. I hope the authorities were really helpful. Was the person ever traced and if so what was the cause of disappearance?
Comment #11 moy (63.176.159.129) - 08/17/09 04:58
That indeed is a sad story. A big chunk of the people that disappear do so with the main aim of not wanting to ever be traced. It indeed is a sad story but my prayers are that you will one day find the missing person. The trauma that a family can go through in such an instance need them to operate in unity. The authorities could be of help as well.

Is Quinto still part of UK? If not, my humble but sensible advice is, best if you seek help from your department of foreign affairs to make the necessary coordination with the authorities in that country to search for her.

Oh my gosh where could Jenny Pope be? And why does her bank account got out of cash? Maybe she had become a victim of robbery or what so ever. Is there any signs of her being alive?
Comment #14 Eve (63.176.159.180) - 12/20/09 12:44
There have been so many cases of missing people in the world lately, it is imply getting devastating.
Comment #15 smithy (63.176.159.32) - 01/08/10 15:59
Why are there so very many people that are considered as gone missing these days? It has become too much of a big issue for someone to not consider.

"Jenny Pope Murder"
An employee of the hotel where Jenny had been staying was charged in connection with Jenny Popes murder. It is believed that he kidnaped, robbed and killed her. I am not sure if he was convicted or not.

I do not understand why it is that Jenny Pope had to be murdered by this person, but murder is simply wrong. I do not understand why it is that people would even bother to waste their time killing others.
