I just moved to Quito and I am looking for a job teaching English. I was told there's lots of opportunities here but I am having difficulty getting in touch with people...I am a native speaker and have a proper TEFL qualification, where should I start looking?

Why is it that you have a difficulty meeting the people? Are you not social enough? If that is the case then try looking for locals or friends you have met recently and let them help you around the area. The first step in getting your job is by first inquiring about the demand of your said profession. The fact that you already moved there means you must have done your research well. How about you source for possible employment bureaus?

There is a lot of information that can be realized if you properly tap into the human resource. This depends on how fast you can create rapport with strangers. You have indicated that you have a difficulty getting in touch with people so I would suggest getting someone else to help you chart the way forward. But first you will need to find out if the jobs in question are in demand.

If you are not so familiar with the place and the people in that place and you really wanted to hunt for a teaching job, I would suggest that you start looking on the internet. Just google search for "English Teaching Job in Quinto" and you will be redirected to another page where you can browse several sites related to your query. Just be patient reading everything until you finally found what you are looking for. Save the websites on your Bookmarks so that you can go back to them later if you need more time.

Actually, it is so hard to get a job nowadays, most especially during the present economic climate and the recession. However, i strongly believe that nothing is impossible for those who persevere. If you just keep on searching then you oughta have that dream job you've dreaming of. Linsey
Well you have a nice certification, it will help you a lot in your job search. And for me, the first thing to do is to search for job openings!!! that's all.

Have to agree with that Chiqui, guts and determination for me is the key elements in acquiring everything, including a job, and not just a simple job but the job of your dreams. Just do your part and nothing is impossible. DO not give up that easy and learn from your previous tries. You can do better if you observe and pick up some lessons on your job hunting experience.
